From July 2-7, mega satellites at Paris and Horseshoe Las Vegas offer players the chance to win multiples of $10,000 paid in Tournament Buy-in Credit that can then be used to enter the $10,000 buy-in WSOP Main Event.

Satellite buy-ins are $145, $250 and $580 to get into the $1,100 and $2,175 satellites for a chance to win a $10,000 Main Event seat.

Day 2 of the $400 Colossus Event #70 is July 2 and nearly 16,000 entries signed on for the popular N0-Limit Hold ‘em tournament.

Poker Community Celebrates Legacy of Poker Legend Doyle Brunson

Poker players and fans from around the world will gather inside the Jubilee Theater at Horseshoe Las Vegas on Sunday, July 2 to celebrate the life of ten-time WSOP gold bracelet winner and Poker Hall of Famer Doyle Brunson.

Known as “Texas Dolly”, Brunson was one of the game’s most prominent players. He was a dominant force in tournaments and cash games for decades and was one of the original players in the inaugural World Series of Poker. In addition to being a champion, Brunson played a pivotal role in the growth and popularity of the game.

JG Nearly 45 years ago, Brunson authored the best-selling bible of poker and strategy, “Super System”. Other books followed the original with more games and professional secrets from the best in the business. Many industry insiders and players pay tribute to Doyle and his standard for achievement in his autobiography, The Godfather of Poker.

Those include some of the Gladiators of poker, WSOP all-time gold bracelet leader Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu, who will speak at Brunson’s celebration of life. Video tributes along with additional respects and admiration by Jack Binion, Lyle Berman, Dewey Tomko, Billy Baxter, Eric Drache and other friends and family including from Doyle’s son Todd are part of the celebration and ceremony.

“During this year’s WSOP, we’re reminded how indebted we are to the colossal impact Doyle had on the WSOP and the game of poker itself,” said WSOP Vice President Jack Effel. “Doyle was the sport’s biggest ambassador who helped bring poker to the mainstream. We owe so much to Doyle and this year’s WSOP is a special tribute to his legacy.”

I talked to Doyle ahead of his passing May 14 when he attended the grand opening of the rebranded Horseshoe Las Vegas in late March (formerly Ballys). Even the poker legend was amazed at the phenominal growth of poker and added television and streaming coverage since the “Moneymaker Effect” from the 2003 World Series of Poker.

JG At the start of this year’s World Series of Poker, I also spoke to Daniel Negreanu.

“Doyle was THE legend,” he said. “He was able to live his life doing what he loved, playing poker, gambling, in action and sharing the experiences.”

Negreanu added that this year’s WSOP will be special for poker to honor Doyle and give back to what Brunson helped pave the way for so many people to continue to enjoy.

Negreanu made a prediction that the WSOP World Championship Main Event would break the record and eclipse “by 200” entries the record turnout of 8,773 in 2006.

Based on the 10 record-breaking WSOP live events this year and added poker satellites around the country, online and in Las Vegas, it’s looking like more than 9,000 players/entries will make this year’s WSOP Main Event World Championship a historic event.

WPT Everyone for One Drop

More big poker events continue in Las Vegas separate from the World Series of Poker. The Big One for One Drop started in 2012 at the WSOP. But following the starting flights of this year’s Main Event, the WPT Everyone for One Drop will take place July 9-14 at Wynn Las Vegas.

The World Poker Tour and the One Drop Foundation host the first $10,500 WPT Everyone for One Drop event. This unique event boasts a $10 million guaranteed prize pool and will feature a live-streamed final table.

Then starting July 14, the WPT Alpha8 for One Drop will draw more high rollers for the $111,111 entry event as the Wynn Summer Classic comes to a close.

In December, World Poker Tour and One Drop are bringing back the $1 million-dollar buy-in Big One For One Drop during the second edition of the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.

As the weather heats up in Las Vegas and poker reaches the pinnacle of the WSOP Main Event, more records will be broken as players shoot to get in-the-money (top-15%) and play down to the final table. Another $10 million top prize and gold bracelet will be awarded to this year’s WSOP Main Event champion as the poker community celebrates another successful run at the World Series of Poker.
